"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand." Einstein, Albert

Realistic Fiction

Realistic fiction, what a great tool that can be used in the classroom. I would use this topic with my students to role play different issue that they may face in their life. For instance bullying, what a great technique to give my students some actual ways to stop bullying, prevent it or just help someone that is being bullied. I can help my students with the actual decision making moral issues and the process they while taking a in-depth look.

When I use a realistic fiction story in my classroom I will try to tap my students empathy. I feel this is a valuable life lesson that can be learned through realistic fiction. I can use this in writing essays to draw out my students emotions. Starting with a four corner brain storm and continue the writing process for them to create their own realistic fiction story.

Diversity

The students in my classroom will be diverse so I  must teach with a diverse book selection. I want my students to see other cultures and life experiences as just important as their own. I will expose my students to different perspectives, insight, and possibilities by incorporating multicultural information and projects in my daily lessons. I will use ethnically diverse books when reading to my students and follow up with a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast cultures from our reading.

As discussed in the text it is most important to celebrate the success of multicultural literacy not only to increase awareness of the accomplishments of all ethnic groups but to encourage future writers and publishers (Johnson, 2012).  I will have guest speakers of diverse cultures to expose my students to a multitude of different cultures.  I plan on acknowledging all types of authors in our classroom will hopefully lead to a more accepting society. I will use the "Risky Books" of course only with the permission of the Principle and students Parents. I believe these book give my students the opportunity to understand facets of our humanity. The subjects I need to truly discuss with my students are "Risky" so are the important subjects.

New Literacies

I agree with the book whole heartily that the benefits of digital text and how it will inevitably increase the critical thinking skills, as well as how the genre will promote understanding diversity. As a future teacher I will encourage my students to use digital text for communication, research and creating new projects.  Technology is here to stay and my students will need these skills to succeed in todays world of books.

A major resource of having a computer in the classroom is the internet. My students will have the ability you learn about new cultures,  view simulations for Science projects. When teaching it will behoove me to use the thousands of free books available on the Internet that are digitized versions of the traditional print books. I will use the internet as a tool to become a journey for students during class time. Eventually there will be minimal books in the class room, they will be replaced by tablets and hand held computer for students to do their text work. Just as text discusses the new genre is digital text and it's here to stay (Johnson, 2012). I will always have written text in my classroom regardless of text books being on computer.
